About District
North 24 Parganas is the most populous district of West Bengal. According to the census report, it is considered the tenth largest district in the country. It is ranked second in terms of population. Barasat is the district headquarters of North 24 Parganas. Barasat is the administrative headquarters of 24 Parganas district which has five subdivisions including Barasat, Barrackpore, Bangaon, Basirhat and Bidhannagar is located. The district is bounded by Nadia district to the north, South 24 Parganas to the south, Bangladesh to the east, and Hooghly district, the Hooghly River, and Kolkata to the west.
